What is Story?

The best definition I ever found was simply this: story is the process of change. Life, too, is the process of change, of growth. To that end, story is life. And, since perception becomes reality, the stories we tell to ourselves and others shape who we are to the world at large.

Sharing your stories with the world is another matter entirely. If you are interested in moving your creative writing from personal to publishable, I can help you with that. I have more than twenty years of experience as a teacher and practitioner of writing, and have facilitated and participated in many writing groups, workshops, and conferences over the years.

I am passionate about creating a collaborative community of writers, whether virtually or in person, because with community comes support, solution-oriented discussion, and gentle accountability. While the act of writing is often a solo endeavor, the process of re-writing doesn’t have to be.

The pathway to publication requires persistence. It requires patience. And, it requires collaboration.

About Dog Days

I call myself the Dog Days Writer because my most productive writing happens in the summer, when I am less consumed by my full-time teaching job, when I have the option to lay about the house with my goofy boxer dog, Harley, and when I intentionally let my mind relax. These small pockets of down time allow my imagination to come forward and crowd out the noise of my inner, uber-annoying and ultra-responsible adult self.

And, let’s face it: I am passionate about fur babies! I’ve been the dog Mom who has taken every one of her five pups to a wonderful training club in her hometown, Quakertown, Pennsylvania since 2006. So, of course dogs are a prominent feature in my writing life too!
